It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
